A beautiful collaboration between Kim Wallace Ceramics and Australian illustrator Renée Treml, this handcrafted tray brings together art and the quiet beauty of Australian ceramics.
Handmade in the Kim Wallace studio in Noosa, the stoneware tray is shaped and glazed by hand using Australian clay. The softly organic form gives each piece its own character, reflecting the thoughtful craftsmanship that defines Kim Wallace Ceramics. No two trays are exactly the same, which is part of the charm of handmade Australian ceramics.
The surface features a detailed illustration by Renée Treml, carefully applied as a decal and fired again in the kiln to ensure lasting durability. Renée, an American-born artist who moved to Australia in 2007, draws inspiration from the country’s remarkable wildlife. With a background in ecology, her work captures Australian animals with warmth, personality and remarkable detail.
Her illustrations are created using a traditional scratchboard technique. The process begins with a clay-coated board, where the image is first drawn by hand. Fine blades are then used to gently scratch through the surface layer, revealing the white clay beneath and creating the intricate texture and depth that defines her work.
This small tray is a lovely piece for everyday styling. Use it to display jewellery on a bedside table, hold a favourite soap beside the basin, rest a candle, or gather small trinkets and keepsakes into a simple vignette. It also makes a thoughtful gift or a meaningful Australian souvenir.
