The Beauty of the Burgundy. A Simple Way to Add Richness to your Wardrobe.. and Life!

Mention the colour Burgundy and your imagination may have you conjuring up images of swathes of regal velvet in opulent surroundings.  It's not surprising as this deep colour of a mix between red and brown with a purple tint was supposedly named after the colour of the wines from the Burgundy region in France.  The colour Burgandy name was first recorded in English in 1881 and had great associations with Royalty and members of the higher class society.  In the Elizabethan era laws were even passed to make sure different classes were easily identifiable by the colours they wore, and of course the sumptuous reds including the Burgundy were reserved for the Royal and nobles.

Luckily today this warm sophisticated colour is not restricted in it's usage!  It is often associated with power and ambition with a sense of seriousness that some of the other more frivolous shades of red just can't convey.
