Creative Women Australia | Handmade Recycled Glassware

Creative Women Australia

Creative Women Australia is one of those brands that makes sense alongside what we do at Jade and May.

Beautiful objects are part of it, of course, but we also want to know who made them, what they are made from and whether there is genuine craft behind them. Creative Women shares much of that philosophy, working with artisan communities around the world to create handmade homewares that celebrate traditional skills while providing meaningful, long-term opportunities for women.

The story behind Creative Women

Creative Women was founded in 2004 as a socially conscious home and lifestyle brand with a focus on supporting female artisans and preserving traditional craft.

Today, the company works with more than 1,400 women across nine countries, partnering with artisans and women-led enterprises rather than simply sourcing mass-produced goods.

Their approach is based around long-term relationships, fair trade principles and the belief that traditional skills have real value. Many of the techniques used to create their collections have been handed down through generations, bringing together cultural heritage and contemporary design.

It’s an approach that feels very familiar to us at Jade and May.

Why we chose Creative Women for Jade and May

When we choose brands for our homewares collection, we’re looking for more than something that simply looks good on a shelf.

We look for independent makers and businesses that care about materials, production and the people behind their products. We also have a soft spot for pieces made by hand, where small variations are something to appreciate rather than iron out.

Creative Women ticks those boxes.

Their focus on supporting women, maintaining long-term artisan partnerships and preserving traditional techniques sits naturally alongside the values behind Jade and May. We particularly love that the human hand is still visible in the finished product. These aren't pieces designed to look perfectly identical.

They have texture, variation and character.

How is Creative Women glassware made?

The Creative Women glassware we stock is ethically made in India by a woman-owned company using 100% recycled glass.

Each piece begins with recycled glass that is handblown and shaped by skilled artisans. The surface is then meticulously hammered by hand, creating the distinctive pebbled texture that gives the collection its beautiful tactile finish.

It is a slow process requiring skilled hands and hours of work rather than automated mass production.

Colour is infused into the glass itself rather than simply sprayed onto the finished surface. This creates those lovely amber, blush, smoke, blue and clear tones while helping the colour remain part of the glass over time.

Because the pieces are individually made, you may notice subtle differences in shape, texture or finish from one glass to another. For us, that's part of their appeal and a lovely reminder of how they were made.

Recycled glass made for everyday life

As beautiful as this glassware is, we don't want things in the cupboard that feel too precious to actually use.

The Creative Women drinking glasses and wine glasses are made for the everyday table. Water with dinner, wine with friends, sparkling water in the afternoon or a cocktail when the occasion calls for one.

Our handblown hammered wine glasses have a generous 440ml capacity and are dishwasher safe, making them particularly easy to live with.

For something a little more celebratory, the handblown hammered coupe glasses work beautifully for cocktails, sparkling wine, desserts or simply sparkling water with plenty of ice and citrus.

You'll find them alongside other artisan-made pieces in our wider glassware, cups and mugs collection.

Beyond drinking glasses

Creative Women's approach to glass extends beyond the table.

Their hammered glass canisters combine recycled glass with hand-carved FSC-certified mango wood lids, creating practical storage that is lovely enough to leave out on an open shelf.

We use the hammered glass canisters for everything from pantry staples and sea salt to bathroom storage. The airtight lids make them useful, while the coloured hammered glass adds warmth and texture.

It's a good example of what draws us to this collection in the first place: everyday objects made with far more thought than everyday objects usually receive.

Women supporting women

One of the strongest threads running through Creative Women is its commitment to female artisans.

The company works with more than 1,400 women across nine countries and describes women as creative agents for change. Their partnerships are designed to provide meaningful, lasting opportunities while helping preserve skills and artistic traditions within artisan communities.

That matters to us.

Jade and May is independently and female owned, and many of the makers and businesses we choose to work with are female owned or family run too. Supporting these businesses isn't about ticking a box. It's about choosing a slower, more personal way of making and buying things.

Traditional craftsmanship in a modern home

There is something lovely about knowing an object on your kitchen table has passed through someone's hands.

The slightly irregular surface of a glass, the way the hammered texture catches afternoon light, or the subtle difference between two pieces are all little clues to the making process.

Creative Women manages to preserve that sense of craftsmanship while creating pieces that fit easily into contemporary homes.

Mix their coloured glassware rather than matching everything perfectly, pair it with handmade ceramics, or bring it out with your everyday plates and linen napkins. Our broader homewares collection follows much the same philosophy: pieces from different makers, materials and places that somehow sit happily together.
