There are artists who work behind closed studio doors, and then there are artists like Giancarlino Benedetti Corcos, who believe creativity belongs in the middle of everyday life.
Born in Rome in 1954, Giancarlino has spent more than two decades painting from the same street in the Italian capital. Each day he hangs his canvas on a wall with nails, sets out his paints and begins creating while the city moves around him. Tourists stop to watch. Locals pause for a chat. Children ask questions. Friends return to see what he's working on next.
For Giancarlino, these moments aren't interruptions. They're part of the artwork itself.
His philosophy is beautifully simple.

Inspired by Rome
Rome has always been more than just home for Giancarlino. It's his greatest source of inspiration.
The changing light across old buildings, layers of history, colourful neighbourhoods and the energy of people moving through the city all find their way into his work. Rather than painting exact scenes, he captures the feeling of a place through expressive marks, bold colour and rich texture.
His paintings sit somewhere between abstraction and representation. Some viewers discover landscapes, architecture or figures, while others simply respond to the movement and emotion within each piece.
There is no single interpretation, and that's exactly the point.

A Career Spanning Decades
Giancarlino studied design before continuing his education in architecture at La Sapienza University in Rome. Throughout his career he has worked across painting, ceramics, wood and mixed media, developing a style that is instantly recognisable for its expressive brushwork and layered compositions.
His work has been exhibited throughout Italy and internationally, while he has continued to return to the same Roman street where his artistic journey unfolds day after day.
