How to Wash Bamboo Fabric So It Stays Soft and Silky to the Touch

(Because Your Bamboo PJs Deserve Star Treatment)

If you've ever slipped into a pair of bamboo pyjamas — like one of the dreamy Jade and May bamboo pyjama sets — you already know: it's they are soft to touch, and oh-so-luxurious. But here’s the thing: bamboo fabric, while tough enough to survive your Sunday laze-fest, needs a teeny-little-bit of TLC to stay its silky, soft to touch self

1. Wash with Cool Water

Bamboo fabric is loves the cold! Always wash your bamboo pyjamas in cold or lukewarm water. Hot water can roughen the fibres in the bamboo fabric, and since we bought them for their soft, sheen-like finish - let's keep them like that

2. Gentle Cycle Only

Set your washing machine to the gentle or delicate cycle. Bamboo fabric doesn’t like being manhandled — it's strong but delicate, like us.

3. Mild Detergents Only

Stick to a mild, liquid detergent that’s free from bleach, brighteners, or harsh chemicals. We love the Koala Eco laundry detergent range, it works well and smells good enough to eat.
Jade and May bamboo pyjama sets are dyed in small batches (with low-impact dyes), so keeping things natural in the wash keeps those beautiful colors fresh and vibrant

4. Skip the Fabric Softener — Bamboo Doesn’t Need It

Here’s the kicker: bamboo fabric naturally stays silky-soft without extra help. Adding fabric softener can actually leave a residue that dulls the glorious smoothness of your bamboo pjs

5. Air Dry If You Can (Or Tumble Dry on a Low Delicate Setting If You Must)

The gold-star method? Hang your bamboo pyjamas on a drying rack or clothesline and let them air dry. They tend to dry super fast but if you’re in a rush or the weather's not playing nice, tumble dry on low heat — but keep it brief.  It won't ruin your PJ set but the more you use the dryer the more the heat will dull the silk-like sheen of the fabric

6. A Gentle Iron If Needed — But Honestly, Who’s Judging?

If you shake and hang your bamboo PJ's once the wash has finished, the bamboo fabric which has a beautiful drape will tend to shake out any wrinkles as it dries. If you do feel the need to iron, use the lowest setting and keep it light.
Or just embrace the rumpled, artfully effortless look.. like we have

Taking care of your Jade and May bamboo pyjama sets isn’t just about maintenance — it’s about honoring those little everyday luxuries that make life sweeter.
Because slipping into silky-soft bamboo pjs at the end of a long day? That’s not just self-care. That’s a whole vibe.

So go on. Treat your bamboo pyjamas with a teeny bit of love, and they'll return the favour
